2.1. County Zoning and Planning Update from Don Schuller
Gage County Commissioner Don Schuller addressed the Board. He asked the Board to consider supporting the idea of splitting Gage County in regard to zoning, for the purposes of the development of wind and solar energy. The current restrictions make it next to impossible for new developments to occur. What may not be desired in northern Gage County, may be welcomed in southern Gage County, where there are already wind turbines. The Board will consider the concept, and consider a written letter of support. The Board thanked Mr. Schuller for his time.
2.2. Presentation by Beth Roelfs on findings of the Diller Community Foundation Youth Survey
Mrs. Beth Roelfs presented findings from the Nebraska Community Foundation Youth Survey. The results were widely positive regarding youth wanting to return to the Diller-Odell District to live, start a family and work. As an example, 42% of those surveyed said they would be extremely likely or somewhat likely to live in the area they now live.
When asked the reason they would live in the area as an adult, 32% said it was a good place to raise a family, while 28% said family ties.
When asked what is the main reason they would not live here as an adult, 51% said due to career opportunities elsewhere.
The Board thanked Mrs. Roelfs for her time and efforts.
2.3. Student Report
Allison Engelman reported on a wide range of student activities noting student success in FFA, Speech and Basketball. She reported that the "Block the Door" Party was held on January 28. The students supplied over 3000 pounds of food to a local food bank through donations. They exceeded their goal by over 1000 pounds. When the students meet their goal, they are allowed a fun day at school that includes games and watching a movie. The Board and administration congratulates the students and thanks Mrs. Becker for all of her efforts with the project.
