No One Eats Alone Day

On Thursday, Feb. 13th, the Circle of Friends group sponsored "No One Sits Alone Day."  It was a simple and will be a fun way of getting students to sit in different seats and groups, and perhaps communicate with someone new in the cafeteria. Students each pledged something they will work on the rest of the school year to help prevent social isolation.  These pledges have been posted on the Circle of Friends bulletin board as a great reminder to make a difference to everyone in our school and communities.

National No One Eats Alone Day is just one of the three components of the Positive Prevention Initiatives from Beyond Differences  It is student-led lunchtime event and in 2020 will be celebrated in over 2500 schools across the US.

Beyond Differences was founded by the Smith's after their daughter, Lili passed away.  Lili was born with a cranial-facial syndrome and, because of her facial differences and increasing lack of social skills needed to keep up with her peers, was socially isolated during her middle school. After Lili died unexpectedly at the age of 15 from medical complications, a few local teens came together determined to honor Lili's life.  They chose something never-before discussed:  social isolation in schools.
