Gaming in the Classroom

How do we learn critical thinking skills, strategy, and teamwork? Through games, of course! Step into Mrs. Gegg’s room and you will see students engaged in fun activities designed to review key concepts or manipulate classroom information.   At first, Bingo was the standard activity for “Game Day”, but over the years, other games have been adopted. Now students can choose the Ladder Game, Flyswatter, 99, the Towel Game, Pictionary or Which One Doesn’t Belong.  To add to the mix, a life-sized game board places students into the game physically.  With laptops, Quizlet is a well-used online flashcard tool, but Quizlet Live makes it a team competition when it puts students to the test by matching vocabulary cards as quickly as they can in order to defeat the opposing teams.  Another fun online game is Kahoot, the multiple-choice quiz game.  Recently, a Breakout box has been added to the mix and the Spanish II students successfully “broke out” of the Spanish Lottery.
