Art Wrap-up

This year, the art students were busy. We were asked to help with the celebration for MOSAIC and their 100th anniversary celebration by painting faces in September. October brought face painting at the Diller trunk or treat event, and the next week, we had ceramic holiday-theme trinket dishes of ghosts, pumpkins, cats, and bats that Mrs. Klaus and the art students made for people to pick out for their treats. We were also in the Paper Moon Festival in Cortland with our Griffin Ceramics for sale (this was our fundraiser this year), and Kelsey had her candles and jewelry for sale as well. Later in the year, we also had a booth at Odell's 50th Craft Fair and then the Magic in Bloom art show this spring in Lincoln. The art shows that we did this year were the Fall Fine Arts Nights, Pioneer Conference Art Show, Youth Art Exhibit at the State Capitol Building (Peyton Hansen with the Watercolor painting of her horses), Spring Fine Arts Nights, and this summer the Jefferson and Gage County Fair Art Exhibits. In December, the Art Club painted with colored wax on candles at our Christmas party and enjoyed treats and warm drinks. The Art Club and HS art students took a day of art adventure in Omaha in the spring to the Joslyn Art Museum and the Omaha HotShops to learn about art and see the master's works for themselves. We are ending the year by painting a mural inside the concession stand and updating the ordering windows at the Odell ball field. This design was put together by students, and 98% done completely by the art students. I'm so proud of them and look forward to more opportunities for community projects in the future. This summer, three art club members will be going on the STEM/ART CLUB trip to Washington DC and New York with a quick stop in Philadelphia. What a great school year!
