Germinating Seeds

The third graders have currently been learning about the plant life cycle in science. They observed time elapsed videos of a plant’s growth, made their own illustrated plant life cycles, and got to germinate lima beans. Each table group got track their seeds growth for three weeks. This experiment became a race between table groups for whose seed was going to sprout, form a stem, and leaves first. The excitement each third grader had during this experiment turned this activity into a great hands-on activity that furthered their understanding of a plant’s life cycle, the parts of a plant, and each parts purpose. The third graders are looking forward to the next science experiment that will take part in our classroom.
