Welcome Back!!

Hello to all our Griffin Families!  It is wonderful to finally be back together with the students and staff!  It is always exciting to see the new faces, the familiar faces, and the exciting changes that took place in the building over the summer.

Back to school means fall testing. One of the tests we will administer on August 17th  is the NWEA MAP Reading Fluency screener for our K-3 students.  This screener measures beginning foundational reading skills, like phonological awareness, phonics/word recognition, sentence reading fluency, comprehension, and oral reading. The benchmark test will be administered again in the Winter and Spring. The test is adaptive to each child. We will use these results to better understand your child’s individual needs and to help them grow as readers. It will show us what our learners can do and what skills to work on.

This information will also determine the IRIP, Individualized Reading Improvement Plans which was put into law in 2018 by the state of Nebraska.  If your child is placed on a plan, you will be notified in writing within 15 days of the assessment.  Following your notification, a plan will then be written by our student support team and shared with you. This plan will explain to you the interventions that will be used to help your child grow in the area of reading.  I am happy to discuss the results further with you and answer any questions you might have.  You can contact me at shennerb@dillerodell.org or on Seesaw and we can set up a time to meet.

Thanks for sharing your child with us here at Diller-Odell.  Have a great school year!

Mrs. Hennerberg
