The 4th, 5th and 6th Grades Hone in Their Volleyball Skills

The students in grades 4-6 have been working the past few weeks on the different skills that are used in the game of volleyball. We started off the unit by learning how to bump/pass the ball between partners. We then moved on to the basic skills of setting the ball and how that skill could be used in different ways to make a play. The final skill we practiced before moving on to Jungle Volleyball was the over/underhand serve. The students practiced by serving back and forth to a partner before we moved on to using the net. We concluded the unit by playing Jungle Volleyball. The rules are the same as a normal game of volleyball with one exception. The ball can hit the ground one time in between each hit. The slight difference in the game allows for better volleys and a much more enjoyable game for the students, as well as allowing them to use the skills they learned much more effectively.
