Diller-Odell Considering 6-Man Football

Diller-Odell Public Schools is considering playing 6-man football the next two seasons, and possibly the next four seasons.  We would see this a temporary change, and would plan to return to playing 8-man football in future years.  If you have any thoughts on the matter, please share them with a member of the School Board, Mr. Meyerle, Mr. Mezger, or Mr. McMurray by November 1.

There would be pros and cons to such a change.  One fact to be aware of is that the NSAA assigns all Nebraska schools their football schedule in a two year cycle.  Schools cannot schedule teams as they wish in football as they do in sports like softball, volleyball and basketball.

Another factor in a change to 6-man, would be that we would be ineligible for the playoffs in 2022.  The NSAA allows a boys count of 27 in grades 9-11.  That count is taken the last Friday in September.  Our count was 28.  The number would be looked at again for the fall of 2023.

The NSAA requires all schools to inform them by November 30thon their intention to play 6, 8, or 11-man football for the next two years.

The Board plans on directing school administration as to their wishes at the next regular Board meeting on November 8.
