FFA Participtes in Range Judging
Thirty five members of the Diller-Odell FFA Chapter and five junior high students participated in the area range judging contest held at Pioneers Park near Lincoln. The event was sponsored by the Lower Platte South Natural Resource District and the Landcaster County Natural Resources Conservation Service. The participants were required to identify twenty-four different range plants by their common name and to list the life form, life span, origin, season of growth, forage value, and root growth form of each. They also evaluated the range condition of three sites, calculated livestock stocking rates, and determine pasture improvement practices.
In the junior division, the team of Theresa Zarybnicky, Katie Schultis, Cody Scheele, and Ethan Rupprecht earned top honors by placing first out of not only twenty two junior teams, but also top overall out of thirty three junior and senior teams. The team of Reese Hennerberg, Joslyn Edmond, Bladen Ahl, and Bailey Schroeder placed second, with the team of Adam Schultis, Dylan Wolbert, Corina Lottman, and Madison Jurgens placing fifth, both in the juniors. In the senior division, the team of Dylan Hamel, Calvin Hennerberg, Camille Hennerberg, and Kai Wendland placed first.
Out of 81 participants, individual recognition and ribbons in the junior division were awarded to Cody Scheele for first place; Ethan Rupprecht for second; Reese Hennerberg placed third; Theresa Zarybnicky placed fourth; Adam Schultis placed fifth; Dylan Wolbert placed 10th; Cory Engleman placed 12th; Bladen Ahl placed 16th; Corina Lottman placed 17th; Caleb Schultis placed 19th; Bailey Schroder placed 20th; Johnathon Schmidt placed 23rd.
Out of 40 participants in the senior division, Dylan Hamel placed first, Calvin Hennerberg placed third, Kai Wendland placed fourth, Trever Roberts placed 12th, Zach Rash placed 16th, and Micheal Beall placed 19th.
Other students participating were: Shane Meyer, Camille Hennerberg, Andrew Hamel, Madison Hajek, Marquis Weers, Tyler Rash, Spencer Schmidt, Christian McCown, TJ Schroder, Katie Zarybnicky, Madison Jurgens, Hayley Denner, Elliot Sasse, Jacob Rutti and, Shyla Goldsberry.
Three junior teams and one senior team attended the state contest, this year held by the town of Genoa, north of York in Platte County. The junior teams all did well, with the team consisting of Cody Scheele, Katie Schultis, Ethan Rupprecht, and Theresa Zarybnicky placing 10th, the team of Corina Lottman, Madison Hajek, Cory Engleman, and Johnathan Schmidt placing 32nd, and the team of Joslyn Edmond, Bladen Ahl, Reese Hennerberg, and Dylan Wolbert placing 40th, all out of 67 teams. The senior team of Zach Rash, Dylan Hamel, Calvin Hennerberg, and Kai Wendland placed 39th out of 58.
Individual recognition at state went to Cody Scheele, placing 29th, and Katie Schultis, placing 34th, both out of 234 participants in the junior division.
