Jr. Griffs Support Lady Griffins Basketball

Throughout the recently completed 2023-24 high school basketball season, it was not uncommon to see some elementary girls on the bench during home Lady Griffin games.  For several years now girls in elementary grades 3 through 6 can volunteer to be Jr. Griffins for a game sometime during the season.  The goal of this is to get the younger girls excited about basketball and experience what it’s like to be part of the ‘game experience’ that takes place throughout a contest.

This activity is open to any girl who wants to participate.  Generally, 2-3 girls are selected for each home game, usually within the same grade.  They are with the team inside the locker room during pregame, at halftime & postgame.  They are introduced along with the players and get to run through the team ‘tunnel’ onto the court.  They join in singing the Griffin fight song after a Griffin victory.  And they receive a gift from the team.  This year it was a BB knapsack that all the members of the high school team signed.

The Jr. Griffs brought good luck this year, as every time they participated, the high school girls won the Varsity game (except the game vs Lawrence-Nelson which was snowed out).  It is always fun having these young gals participate as Jr. Griffins!  The high school team plans on continuing this tradition in future years.
