UPDATE: Jesse and his team finished 4th in the Nation in the the Battle of the Books competition! Great job, Jesse!
Jesse, a 7th grader at Diller Odell Public Schools, has earned his spot on a reading team called Battle of the Books. This is a national reading incentive program for students in grades 5-8. Students read books and come together in groups to demonstrate their abilities and to test their knowledge of the books they have read. The purpose of Battle of the Books is to promote literacy and foster a spirit of academic competition, good sportsmanship, and to encourage critical thinking (SNRP, 2020). Gallaudet University sponsors this competition both at the state and national level. Jesse, along with two other teammates, will compete virtually May 17-18 for a chance at a national title.
