US Quiz App in Social Studies Classes
A goal of Mr. Mohr this year has been to find an app which covers social studies/history that students can download and use inside and outside of the classroom. One that has been found and used in American History class is US Quiz, which focuses on states, flags, capitals, presidents & border maps.
The goal of playing US Quiz is to become a ‘Quiz Master’ and earn rewards like cups and stars whenever you successfully complete one of the quizzes from the app. Students can try to simply pass quizzes, or be more challenged and try to complete them with a perfect score. The more quizzes a student completes, the harder they become to pass. Generally, there are around 20 questions that have to be answered within a certain time period on each quiz.
In American History class students have to complete 15 quizzes each from the U.S. States and U.S. Presidents categories by the end of the 1st Semester in order to earn a grade. Generally, if there is some downtime during class students are encouraged to take these phone app quizzes. Students can participate in these quizzes anytime they want to (not just in class), as the app is free and already downloaded to their phones.
Hopefully, students can have a little fun with their technology AND learn about history all at the same time. Maybe somebody reading this might want to experience US Quiz for themselves. Try it, it is easy to find at the Apple App Store!
