April 2015 Regular Board Minutes

Diller-Odell Regular BOE Meeting

April 13, 2015

President Gary Stohs called the meeting to order at 7:34pm and recognized the posted Open Meetings Act document.  Present: Gary Stohs, Dean Engelman, Jill Scheele, Chad Lottman, Toni Landenberger and Paul Kostal. Administrators Mike Meyerle and Chris Prososki were present. Visitors Calvin Hennerberg and Kent Ropers were also present.

Chad L. moved to approve the minutes as presented.  Jill S. seconded the motion.  MCU.

Calvin Hennerberg presented a student report on recent student activities.  He noted the success of the Ag students at the State FFA convention and also that the HS Quiz Bowl team qualified for the state tournament on April 29.

Mr. Prososki reported on his plan to begin administering the ACT Aspire Test in 2015-16, AQuESST Classification, Dual Credit Courses, and a textbook schedule.

The Board reviewed and discussed policies 5026-5050. Toni L. moved to adopt policies 5026-5050. Paul K. seconded the motion.  MCU.

The Board reviewed policies 5051-5086. They will look to adopt these policies during the May meeting.

Dean E. moved to approve a boys golf coop with Southern HS contingent on Southern also approving the coop.  Jill S. seconded the motion.  MCU.

Chad L. moved to approve a classified wage increase of 3% for 2015-16.  Dean E. seconded the motion. MCU.

Mr. Prososki provided information to the Board on technology purchases for 2015-16.  The District plans to purchase 30 new lap tops for the HS and 30 iPad minis and an iPad cart for the elementary.

Jill S. moved to approve the use of the Special Building Fund for HVAC upgrades in the HS shop.  Dean E. seconded the motion.  MCU.  The upgrades will consist of AC, air cleaners and wrap on all pipes.

The Board took no action on resurfacing the HS drive, but members commented that it needs to be done. The Board will re-visit the subject in coming months.

Mr. Meyerle noted that contracts would go out to certified staff in the next few days.  He reported that Joyce Kostal has been hired as a 20 hour a week employee for cleaning.  She will begin work in June.

Mr. Meyerle also reported that the work on the track will begin at the conclusion of the HS track season and on extra duty assignments for 2015-2016.

Paul K.  moved to pay bills.  Dean E. seconded the motion.  MCU.

Gary S. and Jill S. gave a report on their attendance at the recent NCRSA convention.

Jill S. moved to adjourn the meeting. Toni L. seconded the motion.  MCU.

President Gary Stohs adjourned the meeting at 9:01 pm.

The next Regular Board meeting is scheduled for 7:30pm, May 11, 2015 at the Elementary School Media Center in Diller.    The Board of Education will usually adhere to the sequence of the published agenda, but reserves the right to adjust the order of items if necessary and may elect to amend the agenda as deemed necessary.
