Welcome Back!

As the beginning of another school year has arrived, we look forward to the many achievements of our students in academics and activities.  I have high expectations of our school.  Diller-Odell Public Schools was one of only twenty-eight schools in the state of Nebraska last year to receive a rating of excellent in the assessment system.  Those results do not make my expectations wane.  They make us want to continue to improve for the best possible results.

We are excited to move into a new gym this fall.  The gym will be a much more inviting area for anyone to come watch a sporting contest.  There will be much more room to move around and to enjoy high school activities.  Once the project is complete, we will offer some evenings that people can come and visit and check out the new addition.  Those dates are yet to be determined.  Until we have it open, please do not come to school and walk through, as contractors are still working.  The new area is something everyone should take pride in as it represents an investment in our school district and in stability for years to come.

We welcome several new staff members this year:  Garrett Easley (7-12 music), Craig Lister (Ag), Brittney Kotas (nurse), and Heather Rupprecht (assistant cook).  Please welcome them to our school and communities.  I always am glad to share with new staff how long I have worked here and the admiration I have for our school district and communities.

We work with kids, so problems are sure to occur at some point.   Most of you reading this probably were a kid at some point and made a mistake or two.   I encourage parents to have open lines of communication with your child’s teachers.  Please do not wait until there is an issue to contact the teacher.   In turn, I expect teachers to be contacting parents, if they have concerns involving a student.

Please encourage your child to use social media properly.  It is a constant battle, but one that is here to stay.  Ramifications for misuse can be grim whether at school or in the legal arena.

Thanks to everyone for your efforts.  Everyone counts.  Everyone’s job is important.  Be a positive person.  Positivity spreads, as does negativity.   I am a true believer in correcting as needed, but then build people up to help them succeed.

This is my 30th year in the Diller or Diller-Odell school system.  A lot has changed in 30 thirty years, and I hope when I am done, I leave the place for the better to move into the future.

I wish all of our students and staff the best as they embark on numerous opportunities in 2019-20.

Go Griffs,

M. Meyerle
