April 2012 Board Minutes
Regular Meeting
April 9, 2012
President Gary Stohs called the meeting to order at 7:36 P.M. and recognized the posted Open Meeting Act document. Present: Paul Kostal, Dean Engelman, John Knabe, Gary Stohs, Toni Landenberger, and student representative, Kolin Scheele. Chad Lottman arrived at 7:48. Administrators Darrell Vitoshand Michael Meyerle were present. John K. read the minutes of the March 12, 2012 regular meeting. Paul K. moved to accept minutes as presented. Dean E. seconded the motion. MCU
Student representative, Kolin Scheele, reported on past student activities; art club St. Pat’s Day party, FBLA breakfast, Pioneer and Mudecas Quiz Bowls, District and State Speech contests, State FFA, Mudecas Music contest, and All State Music.
Principal Meyerle stated that students will be busy testing in April. He recognized Cassey Lottman and Kaitlyn McCown for competing in the State Speech Contest. Summer renovations planned include replacement carpet at the elementary, science room modifications at the high school along with some carpet, and technology upgrades for two classrooms. He expressed an interest in rekeying exterior locks at both sites.
Paul K. moved to adopt student concussion policy 6283. The policy addresses recognition training for head injuries, proper notification, and return to activity procedures. Toni L. seconded the motion. MCU
The board discussed the operation, expenditures, and fees for the Little Griffin Preschool when grant funds expire this June. It was recommended to continue the program as established. Fees collected are to be used for supplies and materials for the preschool.
Chad L. moved to amend the agenda, moving item IId, executive session for teacher salary negotiations, to VIb. Dean E. seconded the motion. MCU
Toni L. moved to hire Mrs. Katherine Peace as a 9-12 Language Arts teacher for 2012-2013. John K. seconded the motion. MCU
Superintendent Vitosh informed the board that Tina Kyker will not return as a special education para, the high school no longer needs a Spanish para, and Amy Hamel will be an elementary para next fall.
John K. moved to approve use of Special Building funds to pay for HVAC renovations at the high school. The old boiler will be replaced with more efficient equipment. Paul K. seconded the motion. MCU
Under board committee reports, Toni L. forwarded a Digital Citizenship curriculum to the administration. Schools grounds will be used for two fireworks displays; Diller Picnic on July 5th and Odell Community Days on August 25.
Gary S., Paul K., and Chad L. attended the NRCSA spring convention and reported on sessions attended, which included topics on CIR changes, Principal/Teachers standards and evaluation, Boardsmanship, Release of public records, and an Entrepreneur project at Arnold. The board was apprised on the status of state legislative action.
Dean E. moved to enter executive session for the purpose of teacher salary negotiation. Toni L. seconded the motion. MCU President Gary S. reconvened regular session at 9:17.
John K. moved to pay bills as presented. Paul K. seconded the motion. MCU
Paul K. moved to adjourn. Toni L. seconded the motion. MCU. President Gary S. adjourned the meeting at 9:21 P.M. The next regular Board meeting is scheduled for 7:30, May 14, 2012 at the Elementary media center in Diller.
