Regular Meeting
March 12, 2012
President Gary Stohs called the meeting to order at 7:35 P.M. and recognized the posted Open Meeting Act document. Present: Gary Stohs, Paul Kostal, Toni Landenberger, Dean Engelman, and student representative Cassey Lottman. Absent: Chad Lottman, John Knabe. Administrators Darrell Vitosh and Michael Meyerle were present. Paul K. read the minutes of the February 13, 2012 regular meeting. Paul K. moved to accept minutes as presented. Toni L. seconded the motion. MCU. John Knabe arrived at 7:41.
Cassey L. reported students attending the Cheer Camp performed at the February 10 basketball game. The boys and girls basketball seasons ended in sub-districts with losses to E-M. The speech team has competed in Mudecas, Pioneer, and Beatrice Invite meets. DOSADA held its Sweetheart Dance last month. FBLA and FFA held week-long membership activities. FFA members participated in the Ag Skills contest at SCC and 3 members had proficiency awards place first at districts. The high school music students had a March concert, Student Council members attended a workshop, and track athletes are practicing. The Fairbury Elks Lodge recognized Kolin Scheele and Cassey Lottman as students of the month.
Paul K. moved to approve the Senior trip to Omaha. Dean E. seconded the motion. MCU
Principal Meyerle distributed information on the spring testing schedule, costs estimates on improvements to entrances at the elementary, and progress on new hires for the 2012-13 school year. Coaches are working on set of athletic ability test and a uniform strength-training program. Mrs. Becker is working on the class schedule for 2012-13.
Dean E. moved to approve an Interlocal agreement with ESU5 for Alternative Education services for 2012-13. Paul K. seconded the motion. MCU
John K. move to re-elect the current teaching staff, except those whose application for retirement has been accepted, for the 2012-2013 school year. Toni L. seconded the motion. MCU
Paul K. moved to approve an Interlocal agreement with ESU5 for Technology Coordinator services for 2012-13. Dean E. seconded the motion. MCU
Paul K. moved to approve the hire of Janelle Gegg as .5 fte secondary Spanish teacher for 2012-13 and Terry Arnold as 1.0 fte secondary Science teacher for 2012-13. Dean E. seconded the motion. MCU
Principal Meyerle informed the Board of extra duty assignments for 2012-13. No head coaching changes were made, a few junior high and assistant changes were made, and a sponsor for one act competition was added.
John K. moved to update Board Policy 4230.03, the custodian job description. Paul seconded the motion. MCU Toni L. moved to establish Board Policy 4230.07, a Concessions Director job description. Paul K. seconded the motion. Voting Yes: Gary S., Toni L., Paul K., and Dean E. Voting No: John K.
Under committee reports John K. voiced his desire for teachers to allow for differing points of view as part of the instructional process.
The Board discussed the Capital Improvement Projects Plan. A bleacher upgrade for the stage was moved to a high priority status, a remodel of the science classroom was added, and carpet maintenance will continue.
Superintendent Vitosh reminded members of registration and arrangements for the NRCSA spring convention. Legislative action affecting education involves truancy and compulsory education. Debated changes to state equalization aid will not affect Diller-Odell.
John K. moved to pay bills as presented. Dean E. seconded the motion. MCU
John K. moved to adjourn. Toni L. seconded the motion. MCU. President Gary S. adjourned the meeting at 8:46 P.M.The next regular Board meeting is scheduled for 7:30, April 9, 2012at the High School media center in Odell.
