Fourth Grade Fall Field Trip

October 05, 2017

The fourth graders went on a field trip on October 4th to The Homestead National Monument and Filley Stone Barn.

While at the Homestead they learned hands on what it was like growing up during the Homestead Act.  They learned about Pioneer toys, washing clothes, spinning cotton into yarn, working the land, quilting, and how to identify animals by their skulls and fur.

After the Homestead they headed to Filley Stone barn where they learned the history of the barn as well as marble making, sawing logs, corn shucking, corn husking.  They also took a wagon ride around the property and viewed old farming equipment.  They ended the day with watching a blacksmith form a leaf as well as a cross out of a steel rod.
