Ashley Spitsnogle
Alumni Spotlight
Thinking of high school at Diller-Odell, I remember what a fun time I
had, the relationships I built, and the encouragement by my teachers
and fellow classmates to work hard in whatever you do and to choose to
do something you really love. I enjoyed the bond I was able to
develop with my teachers, and the comfort I felt to ask questions or
for help if any were to arise. Through playing sports, I developed a
competitive, disciplined, and tenacious attitude, which has now
carried over into my art career.
After graduating from Diller-Odell High School in 2004, I decided to
go to Doane College, where I graduated in 2008 with a Bachelor of Arts
with an emphasis in painting and drawing. Following graduation I
traveled to Florence, Italy, where I studied painting and drawing at
SACI. This was an unbelievable experience with people from all over
the world that helped me realize I wanted to be a self-employed
artist. Since then, I have done many commissioned drawings and
paintings for people, along with having had numerous art shows,
including displaying my art in the NE Governor’s Mansion, which is on
display now until September 25th. I also was fortunate to have
illustrated a children’s book, “Josh the Baby Otter,” for a couple in
Lincoln who started the Joshua Collingsworth Memorial Foundation after
losing their son, Joshua, in a drowning incident. Their hope is to
educate children and adults about water safety through the character
“Josh.” We have recently paired with the U.S. Coast Guard, National
Water Safety Congress, and USA Swimming Foundation and work with
Rotary Clubs all over the world.
