FFA Participates in Range Judging

September 27, 2011

 

Fifteen members of the Diller-Odell FFA Chapter and seven junior high students participated in the area range judging contest held in Hamilton County.  The event was sponsored by the Upper Big Blue Natural Resource District, USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service, and Hamilton County Cooperative Extension Service.  The participants were required to identify twenty-four different range plants by their common name and to list the life form, life span, origin, season of growth, forage value, and root growth form of each.  They also evaluated the range condition of three sites, calculated livestock stocking rates, and determine pasture improvement practices.  In the senior division, the team of Kolin Scheele, Colton Rupprecht, Stacy Grabowski, and Derrick Meyer placed first out of thirteen teams.  In the junior division, the team of Theresa Zarybnicky, Katie Schultis, Kai Wendland, and Cody Scheele placed first out of fourteen teams; the team of Austin Vitosh, Ethan Rupprecht, Ely Hroch, and Shane Meyer placed third;  the team of Bailey Schroeder, Dylan Hamel, Brady McMurray, and Calvin Hennerberg placed 6th; and the team of Camille Hennerberg, Zach Rash, Stetson Meyer, and Taylor Goodwin placed 7th.   Individual recognition and ribbons in the Senior Division were awarded to Kolin Scheele for placing 1st of 60 contestants; Colton Rupprecht for placing 3rd; Stacy Grabowski for placing 5th; Tucker Goldsberry earning 14th.   Individuals in the Junior Division earning recognition were Theresa Zarybnicky for placing 2nd out of 57 contestants; Bailey Schroeder for placing 3rd; Katie Schultis for placing 4th; Camille Hennerberg for  placing 5th; Austin Vitosh for placing 6th; Ethan Rupprecht earning 11th; Kai Wendland earning 13th; Shane Meyer earning 16th; and Ely Hroch earning 17th.  Participating as individuals were Casey Lottman and Elliot Sasse.
