Elementary Staff Attend 2018 Para Conference
Susan Lawton, Hannah Oberembt, Marcia Duerksen and Cindy Stohs joined other para educators from across Nebraska at the Para Conference in Kearney. It was an opportunity to learn, grow, and network with people from other schools. Nebraska is a leader among our nation with support for and utilization of para professionals.
The keynote speaker, Matt McNiff of ESU 5, talked about the amazing and positive impact that paras have had on the lives of his own sons. Excellent break out sessions covered topics such as chunking, positive feedback and clarity in giving directions.
Hannah wrote, “This conference has empowered me to work harder to help our kiddos not only learn and grow everyday but, also feel supported and cared for throughout their years here at Diller-Odell. “ One quote that stood out for them was…”it’s not what you do for your students, it’s what you have taught them to do for themselves that makes them successful.” All four stated that is was wonderful to attend a conference that honors paras and the work they do and expressed appreciation to the district for making it possible.
