Chicks Bring Christmas Cheer

For the last several years, 3rd graders have been participating in an embryology project offered through the Gage County Extension Office.  This project is a great extension to our Life Science studies.  Jane Esau is the extension educator that organizes it all for us to experience.

This year she did something extra special in celebration of our school district and the other 5 districts that participate.  Through Heifer’s International, she purchased 6 flocks of chicks that will be a gift to a family in need, so they can raise the flock of chicks and benefit from the nourishment they receive from the eggs produced and income from selling the eggs at their local market to supplement their income.

A single hen can lay more than 200 eggs per year.  This gift can be life changing and enable them to afford medicine and clothing to help their families stay healthy and warm.  What a wonderful learning experience for us and a unique and meaningful way to share the gift of giving with a family in need.  If you are ever in the Gage County Extension Office, be sure to thank Jane Esau for honoring our school district through this project.
