5th Grade to Earth Day Festival 2017

On Thursday, April 27th the 5th grade class attended the 2017 Earth Day Festival at Camp Jefferson sponsored by the University of Nebraska Extension Offices   There they learned about many different ways to help our environment.  There were 7 different stations they they rotated through.  Each station was a different concept.  They learned about some of the different animals that Nebraska has by being able to look at some different skulls, bones, pictures, and even played a game called Fox and Quail.  Some of the other stations were talking about the importance of watersheds, how it is important to not pollute our water, how rivers move, the importance of how leaving crop residue or mulching can help reduce loss of soil, and even the water cycle.  The two hits of the day were learning about wild and wacky pests and helping plant some different types of plants and grasses.   It was a great day for the students to be outside learning about our environment and how to better it for years to come.
