Getting the "Write" Start
Seniors at Diller-Odell have the opportunity to enrich themselves by enrolling in dual-credit English courses. This year ten students accepted the challenge of taking English Composition for college and high school credit.
The rigorous curriculum is based on the Composition 101 course offered by Peru State College. To supplement Peru State’s semester-long syllabus, a research paper and a current issues exploration project have been added to extend the 3-credit course to fit the yearlong class. The course objectives were designed to foster students’ critical thinking abilities, develop writing skills, and expand vocabulary.
Throughout the year, students will incorporate narrative, descriptive, process analysis and compare/contrast modes of writing into original essays. In addition, they will produce a research paper and an interest journal.
