'Reading Under the Big Top' is BIG Hit!

Clowns, acrobats and animals were all part of the Circus themed reading program for 2016.  Each week an average of 40 children from Diller and Odell joined in the fun.  In addition to checking out books and earning tickets to shop at the Circus Shop, kids learned to make balloon animals through the skill and expertise of Brianna Weers.  Lily, Madeline and Emily Swanson entertained and amazed the crowd with their feats of tumbling and acrobatics.

Circus goers tried their skills through Circus related games and studied the science of the Circus with experiments involving balance, marshmallows and pennies. Sessions started with an opening of jokes, skits and dancing.  One highlight of the 4 week program was ‘Elephant Toothpaste’.  The event was held each Friday morning from 9:30 till 11 starting May 27 at the Diller-Odell Elementary School.

Coordinators for the Reading Circus were Lana Hemphill, Jan Liscom and Beth Roelfs.  Thanks goes out to Betty Lawrence, Judy Garton and Judy Landenberger who handled the book check outs as well as to the many volunteers who came to help make the program a success.  Sponsors of the program were: the Diller Community Foundation Fund,  Diller-Odell Schools who provided a driver and transportation for children coming from Odell along with the library collection and the Fun Raisers Service Club of Diller.
