Big Red Stars is a recognition program honoring 8th grade students from the state of Nebraska who showcase promising academic talent, leadership or perseverance. Madison and Melina  were selected to represent Diller-Odell Schools at this event.

The Big Red Stars award ceremony and formal program is hosted by the Office of Admissions and EducationQuest.

This event was held on Thursday, April 28, 2016 at the Lied Center in Lincoln.  8^th grade students throughout the state were presented their plaques on stage after a presentation was given on “KnowHow2GotoCollege” by EducationQuest and a motivational speech given by keynote speaker Mr. Peter Ferguson.  Following the plaque presentation students and their guests were given a lunch break in the Haymarket area.  They met back for tours of their choice of UNL City Campus, UNL East Campus, Huskers Football Stadium or the Haymarket. 

Both Madison and Melina chose to take tours of City Campus.  The tour was 1 ½ hours long and took them all over campus and through buildings, classrooms of different sizes, the UNL Rec Center, new 24 hour study building and the library.  Their tour guide, Maddy, was excellent and gave them a lot of insight into college life and what to expect.  Melina said,  “after this tour of City Campus, I was impressed with UNL, and am considering it as a possibility for my post high school education.”
