Fourth Grade Visits Rock Creek
The fourth graders took a field trip to Rock Creek station on Friday, September 11th. They started their adventure walking along the Oregon Trail. They were then split up into 12 groups along with 223 other Fourth graders from the surrounding districts. They were given a small satchel with 3 wooden coins to pay for the crossing of the toll bridge. Each group was assigned to 6 stations. The leaders at each station were dressed as Emigrants from the 1800's. Each station taught the students something about the past. The stations included a tall tale story teller, how to grow crops, how to start a fire with flint, how to cook on an open flame, how the oxen were trained to pull the wagons, how to load a powder rifle, a job as a blacksmith, games that children played, and how to live off the land. It was an adventure to remember!
