The Day of the Dead is the most popular holiday in many Latin American countries.  The Spanish I classes did their part to learn about this holiday and the traditions that accompany it.  By watching videos, reading articles and participating in class discussions, the students learned about the food, decorations and significance of this celebration of life.  They also compared this holiday to Halloween and made some connections between the two. A separate interesting connection they made was that the movie, “The Book of Life,” is a story that involves the Day of the Dead.  To culminate the unit, students worked in groups to create an ofrenda, altar, that honored a famous, deceased Hispanic person.
