January 2015 Regular Minutes

Diller-Odell Regular BOE Meeting

January 12, 2015

 

President Gary Stohs called the meeting to order at 8:00 p.m. and recognized the posted Open Meetings Act document.  Present: Gary Stohs, Jill Scheele, Paul Kostal, Dean Engelman, Chad Lottman, and Toni Landenberger. Administrators Mike Meyerle and Chris Prososki were present.  Visitors Cathy Lyons, Sharon Tegtmeier, Don Tegtmeier and Calvin Hennerberg were present.

Paul K. moved to accept the minutes as presented.  Jill S. seconded the motion.  MCU.

Mr. Meyerle read the Board members the Oath of Office and each member signed a written copy.

Paul K. moved to have the Board officers retained for 2015.  Gary S. President; Chad L. Vice President; Toni L. Secretary; Paul K. Treasurer.  Dean E. seconded the motion.  MCU.

Chad L. moved to accepted standing committee appointments for 2015 as presented.  Toni L. seconded the motion.  MCU.

Chad L. moved to designate both KSB School Law and Harding and Schultz as the law firms who are authorized to provide the school district with legal counsel.  Paul K. seconded the motion.  MCU.

Jill S. moved to retain the Beatrice Daily Sun as the official newspaper, to retain the State Bank of Odell as the official repository, and to appoint Superintendent Meyerle as the Attendance Officer and Federal Programs Director.  Chad L. seconded the motion.  MCU.

Cathy Lyons and Sharon Tegtmeier thanked the Board for years at Diller-Odell Schools, and noted how much they have appreciated working at the school.

Calvin Hennerberg presented a brief student report on recent and upcoming student activities.

Mr. Prososki reported to the Board that the Pre-School Advisory Committee has recommended changing the pre-school program to serve 4 year olds all day beginning with the 2015-16 school year.  The pre-school has served 3 year olds in the mornings and 4 year olds in the afternoon since it began in 2009. The Board had no issue with the change.

Mr. Prososki also reported on DIBELS data, the upcoming NeSA writing assessment and Special Program enrollment numbers.  A technology plan was presented which included purchasing 30 iPad minis, cases, and a cart for the elementary, as well as 30 new student laptops for the HS for the 2015-16 school year.

The Board accepted the resignation of Cathy Lyons effective at the end of the 2014-15 school year.  The Board thanks Mrs. Lyons for her years of service and wishes her well in retirement.

Mr. Meyerle reported that some windows would be replaced at the HS this week.  The windows are on the north side of the older part of the building.

The Board thanks the Sandman Family Foundation for a donation of $2500 to help add additional space at the concession stand in Diller.

Dean E. moved to pay bills.  Paul K. seconded the motion.  MCU.

Toni L. moved to increase Mr. Meyerle’ s Superintendent salary 4.5% for the 2015-2016 school year to bring him closer to the average of comparable schools.  Chad L. seconded the motion.  MCU.

Chad L. moved to adjourn the meeting.  Dean E. seconded the motion.  MCU.

President Gary Stohs adjourned the meeting at 9:28 p.m.

The next Regular Board meeting is scheduled for 7:30 p.m., February 9, 2015 at the High School Media Center in Odell.
