December 2014 Regular Minutes

Diller-Odell Regular BOE Meeting

December 8, 2014

President Gary Stohs called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m. and recognized the posted Open Meetings Act document.  Present: Gary Stohs, Jill Scheele, Dean Engelman, Chad Lottman, and Paul Kostal.  Absent: Toni Landenberger.  The absence was excused.  Administrators Mike Meyerle and Chris Prososki were present.

Chad L. moved to approve the minutes as presented. Dean E. seconded the motion.  MCU.

There was not a student report. 

Mr. Prososki reported to the Board on the following: The District's Annual report for 2013-2014, MAPS testing, and the November 7th in-service.  Mr. Prososki noted that Judy Krause was recently recognized as one of two para-educators from the state of Nebraska to be given a "Para-educator of the Year" award.  Mr. Meyerle also noted that Mr. Prososki was recently given the "New Principal of the Year" award for the state of Nebraska.  Both are terrific honors and the Board congratulates both Mrs. Krause and Mr. Prososki on their awards.

The Board reviewed and discussed policies 4019-4038. Chad L. moved to adopt policies 4019-4038.  Paul K. seconded the motion.  MCU.

The Board reviewed policies 4039-4058. They will look to adopt these policies during the January meeting.

Dean E. moved to recognize the DOEA as the exclusive bargaining agent for the district's non-supervisory certificated staff for the 2016-17 contract year.  Paul K. seconded the motion.  MCU.

Mr. Meyerle gave a brief update on a possible shop HVAC project.  He is still awaiting estimates.

Mr. Prososki reported on the upcoming "Honor of Code" computer science program where 7th graders will assist elementary students.  He also noted that Amy Coufal and Justin Larsen will be representing the school as "Leaders of Technology" for ESU 5.

Mr. Meyerle presented the Board with Board Committee assignments to review prior to the January meeting.

Discussion was held on changing the preschool program to all day for 4 year olds only.  More discussion will follow.

Discussion was held on the possibility of a boys golf coop with Southern HS for 2015-16.  More discussion will follow.

Jill S. moved to pay bills.  Dean E. seconded the motion.  MCU.

The Board reviewed Mr. Meyerle's Superintendent contract.  The Board will research comparable schools to discuss Mr. Meyerle's salary for 2015-16 prior to the January Board meeting.

Gary S. and Paul K. shared information they gathered at the recent NASB conference in Omaha.  The conference is very informative and Mr. Meyerle encouraged at least three Board members to continue to attend next fall.

The Board noted that they are very pleased with efforts of so many at school.  They were very impressed by all that assisted in supervision during the state volleyball tournament and thanks everyone.  The Board congratulates all of students, coaches and all who had a part of a terrific fall sports season which saw the softball team qualify for the state tournament, the football team advance to the second round of the playoffs, and the volleyball team win the Pioneer Conference Tournament and claim 3rd place at the state tournament.

The Board also noted that they are very proud of Diller-Odell students for having such a large part of the school receiving the Sportsmanship Award at the state volleyball tournament.

Paul K. moved to adjourn the meeting. Chad L. seconded the motion.  MCU.

President Gary Stohs adjourned the meeting at 8:40 p.m.

The next Regular Board meeting is scheduled for 7:30 p.m., January 12, 2015 at the Elementary School Media Center in Diller.    The Board of Education will usually adhere to the sequence of the published agenda, but reserves the right to adjust the order of items if necessary and may elect to amend the agenda as deemed necessary.
