FFA Participates in Range Judging

Twenty eight members of the Diller-Odell FFA Chapter and seven junior high students participated in the area range judging contest held northwest of Tecumseh.  The event was sponsored by the Nemaha Natural Resource District and the Natural Resources Conservation Service with assistance from the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission and Cooperative Extension.  The participants were required to identify twenty-four different range plants by their common name and to list the life form, life span, origin, season of growth, forage value, and root growth form of each.  They also evaluated the range condition of three sites, calculated livestock stocking rates, and determine pasture improvement practices. 

Diller-Odell’s members took first in both the junior and senior divisions in the team and individual competitions.  There were 171 individual students and 43 teams  participating in the event.   The top senior team of Cody Scheele, Ethan Rupprecht, Theresa Zarybnicky, and Katie Schultis took the Grand Champion Team award with the highest score of all teams in either division.  Ranking highest in the junior team division was Adam Schultis, Reese Hennerberg, Joslyn Edmond, and Caleb Schultis.       

In other results in the senior division, the team of Kai Wendland, Zach Rash, Bailey Schroeder, and Calvin Hennerberg placed second; and the team of Bladen Ahl, Camille Hennerberg, and Elliot Sasse place tenth.  In the junior division, the team of Jonathan Schimdt, Spencer Schimdt, Christian McCown, and Dylan Wolbert placed second;  Cory Engelman, Jesse Scheele, Kaleb Rupprecht, and Bryston Warren placed fourth; Morgan Phillips, Kirsten Bures, Ashley Yocum, and Kelsey Schlictman placed fifth;  T.J. Schroeder, Andew Hamel, Corina Lottman, and Alexis Craw placed sixth.

Out of 67 participants, individual recognition in the senior division was awarded to Cody Scheele for first place; Ethan Rupprecht for second; Theresa Zarybnicky for third; Kai Wendland for fourth; Calvin Hennerberg for sixth; Katie Schultis for eighth; Zach Rash for ninth; and Camille Hennerberg for tenth. 

Out of 104 participants in the junior division, Dylan Wolbert placed first; Adam Schultis second; Jesse Scheele third; Spencer Schmidt fourth; Reese Hennerberg fifth; Bryston Warren eighth; Joslyn Edmond ninth; and Kelsey Schlichtman tenth. 

Other students in the top twenty five percent and receiving a ribbon were: Andrew Hamel; Corina Lottman; Morgan Phillips; Kirsten Bures; Caleb Schultis; T.J. Schroeder; Alexis Craw; Jonathan Schmidt; Katie Zarybnicky; and Bailey Schroeder.  Other students participating were: Christian McCown; Kaleb Rupprecht; Madison Hajek; Cory Engelman; Faith Novotny; Madison Jurgens; Ashley Yocum; Bladen Ahl; and Elliot Sasse.
