 Regular Meeting January 11, 2010

 

President Gary Stohs called the meeting to order at 7:34 P.M. and recognized the posted Open Meeting Act document. Present: Paul Kostal, Dean Engelman, Toni Landenberger, John Knabe, Gary Stohs, and Chad Lottman.  Administrators Darrell Vitosh and Michael Meyerle were present.  Secretary John K. read the minutes of the Dec. 14, 2009 regular meeting.  Paul K. moved to accept minutes as presented. Dean E. seconded the motion. MCU

 

Toni L moved to retain all officers in their current positions for 2010, Gary Stohs, president, Chad Lottman, Vice President, John Knabe, secretary, and Paul Kostal, treasurer.  Dean E seconded the motion.  MCU Chad L. moved to accept standing committee appointments as presented.  John K. seconded the motion. MCU John K. moved to retain the Beatrice Daily Sun as the official newspaper and Harding & Shultz as legal counsel.  Chad L. seconded the motion. MCU Paul K. moved to retain The State Bank of Odell as the official repository.  Chad L. seconded the motion. MCU Chad L. moved to appoint Superintendent Vitosh as the Attendance Officer and Federal Programs Director.   John K. seconded the motion. MCU

 

Principal Meyerle reported the 2010 football schedule and district assignment is prepared by the NSAA and is forthcoming; we have no control over who we play and when.  The high school scoreboard continues to malfunction and needs replacement at an estimated cost of $9,000.  Mrs. Schultis, Mrs. Hemphill, Mrs. Roelfs, and he had attended a RtI Workshop and staff development to improve academic achievement for all students.  Planning for ball field lights in Diller continues, but the early and strong winter may cause delays.

 

The board discussed concerns with the low number of students participating in vocal music and course opportunities to students as it pertains to scheduling and registration. Counselor Sheri Schultis explained the 2009 registration and schedule building process for board members.  Patron Mark Weers shared his views as well.  Information gathered will be helpful as students begin registration for 2010 classes in February.

 

Student board representative, Janel Rickstrew, reported that the Mudecas Basketball Tourney begins Jan. 11.  Instrumental students will participate in the Pioneer Conference Honor Band on January 18 in Odell with a concert is at 7:00.  Dosada members are planning a Pancake Feed as a fund-raiser on a future date and asked if a Sunday is permissible; the board voiced no objection.  The sophomore class will perform the play ”Robin Hood” on April 16.  Janel asked the board to approve the Senior Trip to Omaha on April 30,2010.  John K. moved to approve and Dean E. seconded the motion.  MCU.

 

Superintendent Vitosh reported little progress on hiring another bus driver.  The patrons can expect transportation difficulties and delays for some time due to the amount of snow on bus routes.  It was noted that local road crews have done a remarkable job in keeping our routes open.  The board was informed of upcoming NRCSA and NASB conventions and sessions. The board discussed the school time missed due to weather.  To date, we still meet instructional our requirements and decisions to make up time will wait.

 

Paul K. moved to pay bills as presented. Toni L. seconded the motion.  MCU

 

Paul K. moved to enter executive session for the purpose of Administrators’ salary negotiations. Chad L. seconded the motion.  MCU The Board entered the session at 9:03.  John K. moved to resume regular session at 9:45.  Paul K. seconded the motion.  MCU

 

Chad L. moved to adjourn.  John K. seconded the motion. MCU. President Gary S. adjourned the meeting at 9:47 P.M. The next regular Board meeting is scheduled for 7:30, February 8, 2010 at the High School media center in Odell.
