The Salvation Army D.J. Hero's Award
This scholarship recognizes the volunteer efforts of young people (17-19) in communities across Nebraska. Scholarships are often limited to only the top academic achievers. However, another group of talented students is often overlooked -- those who give of themselves by always being there to lend a helping hand to others. The Salvation Army has a way to reward their efforts.
The Salvation Army created the D.J.'s Hero Awards in memory of D.J. Sokol, a courageous young man who lost his battle with cancer at the age of 8. Through the D.J.'s Hero Award, D.J.'s memory lives on through the recipients who share his qualities of dedication to faith, selfless acts for others and commitment to their community.
If you are interested in being nominated for this scholarship see Mrs. Schultis. Deadline: March 8, 2010.
