Spanish class 1st Semester 2007 in Review

Welcome Back!! (Benvenidos de Regreso!!!)

by Rita Blanco

January 08, 2008

The last semester the Spanish students were able to participate in many activities to understand more about the Spanish culture. Some of the activities involved all classes and some activities required more advanced language abilities and therefore Spanish 1 was not able to attend.

The end of October the students learned about the Dia de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead). Day of the Dead is similar to the United States’ Memorial Day. This Hispanic holiday originated in Mexico and is mainly celebrated in Mexico but there are now countries in Central and South America that are celebrating this holiday.

The students created an Ofrenda (an Offering) to honor a family member that has passed away. The Ofrenda consists of articles of clothing, food, and pictures that the deceased enjoyed or was remembered by. Included are pictures of several students displaying their Ofrendas they created to honor a person in their family. Michael Steelman 1st period; Amie Engelman 2nd period.
